  BethB, totally agree, perhaps it's more important for drivers to have an annual test as opposed to their vehicles. I know there's no chance of that but I live in hope that the drivers' test is made more stringent. The right to drive a lethal weapon should be earned as opposed to almost being given away with three coupons from the back of a Kellogg cereal packet.

  Plainspeaking I agree with your sentiment but the at that time of day on Brook Street traffic rarely reaches 15 mph at best. And putting 20 mph signs is all very well but on that stretch of road drivers already ignore the lights on the pedestrian crossing and the signs saying no right turn into Gladstone terrace. New laws and signs are all very well, but no good without the policing to back it up.

  I very much hope the lad is not too seriously hurt and is starting to make a good recovery. Isn't it time that a well-signed 20 mph speed limit outside schools in this sort of very busy traffic situation is introduced?
