Corby Glen Primary School supports Ukraine humanitarian effort with collection for Bourne Baptist Church

Corby Glen Primary School has joined the effort to support the people of Ukraine with humanitarian aid by organising a collection of essentials.

The school answered a call from Bourne Baptist Church for donations to help the people of Ukraine following the invasion by Russian forces.

After sending out a request to parents, staff and the local community, the school received donations of toiletries, nappies, long-life food, blankets, towels, sleeping bags, first aid items and medicines and delivered them to the church.

Pupils have been following the unfolding story on BBC children's show Newsround and wanted to act.

Year 6 pupil Dan said: "I think it's great as a school we are helping the people of Ukraine by supplying them with everyday essentials."

Classmate Henry added: "We are donating so that a Ukraine family can feel supported by others around the world.

"In our class we have been discussing the impact war and conflict can have on communities and the world."

The year group began a topic on war and conflict in January and have visited the Stibbington Centre to see what evacuee children faced during the Second World War.

"The recent conflict has resulted in many in-depth discussions with Year 6, and it's been important for us as a school to support the questions and worries our children have raised," said headteacher Natalie Willcock.

"Collecting for the church was a small part of what our school felt we could do in the current circumstances."
