School pupils given prizes for winning entries of Grantham Civic Society photographic competition
A photography competition for young people showcased some of the historic and interesting buildings in the area.
The Grantham Civic Society presented prizes to the winner and two runners up of its photographic competition on Monday afternoon in the Mayor’s Parlour in the Guildhall.
Open to young people between the age of 11 and 18, the brief of the contest was to photograph the outside of an interesting or historic building in the Grantham area.
Grantham Civic Society, which has over 200 members, received many “good quality entries”, said chairman John Manterfield, which were judged by the committee.
The winners was Maya Bennett, aged 13, who received £100 and a framed photograph of her entry, which showed Bellmount Tower in Belton Park.
In second place, Grace Goodband, aged 12, won £50 with her photograph of St Wulfram’s church, and, in third place, Fergal Giltinan, aged 11, won £25 for his photograph of the Blue Pig pub.
Maya and Grace both attend Kesteven and Grantham Girls School and Fergal attends the King’s School.
John thanked all those who had entered the competition and paid tribute to treasurer Ruth Crook for her work in arranging it.
The prizes were presented in the Mayor’s Parlour on Monday by Deputy Mayor Councillor Charmaine Morgan, who congratulated the winners, commenting on the range of photographs and thanked the civic society for its contribution to the town and its heritage.
Mayor of Grantham, Councillor Mark Whittington, also sent his best wishes to the winners.
It is anticipated that the photographic competition will be held again in 2024.
