Simply stunning trail at Grantham's Christmas at Belton

Magical is the word that best describes Christmas at Belton.

It’s a real spectacle and the perfect place to go if you’re looking for something special to do as a family at Christmas time.

The focus is on light and colour in what is a first for Belton House. The grounds of the National Trust property have been transformed into a light show partnered with Christmas music.

Some of its oldest trees are lit up in stunning colour, light installations have been erected and Santa and his elves await families at the end.

The sale of hot chocolate and mulled wine adds to the festive atmosphere, while the chance to toast marshmallows is a lovely addition.

The sticking point for several people I’ve spoken to is the cost of tickets, yet I believe it’s worth it. When else do you get to see such a spectacle on your own doorstep?

What did smart a little, though, was the cost of refreshments, so don’t go hungry unless you’re prepared to pay.

It was lovely to see the smiles on the faces of not only children, but adults too, particularly at the various 'photo stations'.

Christmas at Belton has been on at Belton House since the end of November and draws to a close on December 30.
