Former Grantham schoolboy Drew Thomas set to release new music and perform celebratory gig in Nottingham
A former Grantham schoolboy will soon release new music and perform a special gig to celebrate.
Drew Thomas, who attended Dudley House School and then the King’s School, will release his latest EP, Meridian, on Friday.
He now lives in London and will perform the new songs from the EP at a headline event at Nottingham Bodega on Saturday night.
Drew said: “As a former Grantham school boy, the town really shaped my journey as a young musician.
“Meridian is collection of songs that sum up what it’s like to be twenty-something at a crossroads in life, learning to accept the things you can’t change but reflecting on the mistakes you wish you could.
“Inspired by five different people in my past and present, these songs offer an artistic vulnerability I’ve never shown before.”
Drew is spearheading a rising movement of queer rock artists through determination and powerful song-writing.
He previously told the Journal that he was “a big fan of singing and performing” from an early age and began writing songs aged 12 on his piano at home.
Drew formed a band, Mowbeck, after finishing his A-levels and, after touring the country supporting bigger acts, the group split in 2018.
He has been a solo singer-songwriter since and said that he draws inspiration from “the distinctive sonic imprint of the noughties rock uprising”, “fused with his own brand of cathartic storytelling”.
Drew has been featured by BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, Apple Music and has a portfolio that includes song-writing collaborations with internationally acclaimed artists.
He is now gearing up for an exciting new chapter after highly-acclaimed sets at Sweden’s Future Echoes festival and the an appearance at the UK’s Great Escape.
Meridian is billed as “a collection of future anthems yearning to reverberate through the massive stages of major festivals over the upcoming year”.
It can be streamed on services that include Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
