The demolition of former police houses on Stonebridge Road this weekend, will mark the start of Grantham College’s £52 million redevelopment.

The boarded up buildings will be demolished over the half term, to make way for the first stage of the College’s masterplan - an IT, business, technology, media and music centre.

College chief executive, Linda Houtby, said: “It is nice to be at this point. The houses have been an eyesore for a long time, and we think the design of building 20 will make it an iconic building in town.”

It will be constructed from timber, brick and glass, and link to the preserved Grade II listed Stonebridge House and stables. More work is required to prepare the land after demolition, with no start date confirmed yet for construction.

With £2.8 million provided by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership towards this first stage, the college is also looking ahead to secure funds for the college’s complete redevelopment over the next 20 years, for which they already have outline planning permission. The ultimate aim is to eventually replace almost all of the current premises with new facilities.

Mrs Houtby said neighbouring homes have been contacted about the imminent demolition, and surrounding roads would not be affected.
