Grantham College media students create short film to mark Remembrance Day
A group of college students created a film themed around Remembrance Day.
Media students at Grantham College teamed up to create a group project entitled ‘We Will Remember Them’, which was released on Remembrance Day.
The short film, which has a run time of just under two minutes, shows an armistice event in the present day, and a war-time flashback.
Steve Healey, head of level two media in the Grantham College film department, starred in the film alongside student Josh Webster.
“It’s the first [film] we’ve done for Remembrance Day, but we make films literally every day,” said Steve.
“I thought with Remembrance Day coming up ‘shall we go off timetable and make a film?’, and the students said yes!”
The film took around two weeks to plan, and was shot last Tuesday at Grantham Cemetery.
Steve continued: “They were happy for us to film there. We put a script together over a couple of hours and got it into production.”
Every level three, year one media student worked together on the project.
“The students go off and do separate projects in smaller teams, so sometimes I like to get them all together,” added Steve.
“We did a film last year set during WWII. The whole idea of it was my grandmother went into a care home and she was on her way out.
“She told me the story of how she met my granddad and we made a film of how they met.
“I played my granddad and Josh played Williams, my co-pilot. We based it all on historical events, then with [We Will Remember Them] we wanted to focus more on Josh.
“I proposed the remembrance idea and then as a team they came up with the idea of the flashback, so it was a group effort.”
