Top 40 primary schools in and around Grantham revealed
A data gathering website which provides information to Mumsnet and Rightmove has unveiled its top primary schools in the area.
The website – www.schoolguide.co.uk – has rated primary schools according to key performance data, including exam results, Ofsted reports, ‘value added’ score and pupil to teacher ratio.
Parents are also able to write a review of their child’s school and compare against others locally, with a maximum five-star rating.
Coming top in the list of the 40 primary schools closest to Grantham was Stathern Primary School. Headteacher Troy Jenkinson said he was “thrilled” and welcomed the School Guide as a recognition of achievement. “There is a real partnership here between the staff, the pupils and the parents – we all work together. I feel privileged to be part of this team,” he said.
Rated among the best in Grantham is Barrowby Church of England Primary School. Headteacher Len Batey said: “We’re delighted. It’s a real affirmation of the hard work and energy we put in here. Our school is about supporting individual children to achieve their potential.”
Receiving the lowest score of those rated was The West Grantham Academy St John’s. Headteacher Wayne Parkes, newly appointed in September, said: “I acknowledge that the results appear disappointing based upon pupil attainment.
“However, the progress pupils are making from their disadvantaged low starting point is greater than this benchmark indicates.
“The staff at St John’s are committed and are working tremendously hard to improve life changing opportunities in the most deprived area of Grantham. “There are firm plans in place by the leadership team to address all of the priority areas which we consider need immediate attention. With the support of the Mowbray Education Trust, these plans will bring rapid improvement in progress and attainment.
“The future is very exciting for the staff and pupils of St John’s.”
