‘Lack of support from the people of Grantham’ results in Sir Isaac Newton Pub sale, says landlord
The landlord of a High Street pub says it has been put up for sale because of a “lack of support” from people.
The Sir Isaac Newton pub was put on the market earlier this week for £395,000.
Geoff Eggar-Hopkins, landlord of the pub, said there has been a “lack of support from the people of Grantham” towards the pub.
Geoff took over as landlord in March of this year after he was headhunted from Shrewsbury.
He said it was “dirty” and “unclean” when he first took it over. “We spent days cleaning it from the cellar through to the private quarters upstairs.
“I had staff there cleaning for three days.
.Mr Eggar-Hopkins added: “Our first actions were to remove the underage drinkers and drug dealers.
“It is the biggest pub in town and one of the cheapest.”
The pub is owned by Amber Taverns and a spokesperson said it was being sold because of its “geographical location”.
The spokesperson added: “It no longer fits into the strategy of the business.
“We aim to support all our pubs with close support from area managers and unfortunately Grantham is an outlier.”
The three-storey building includes a large enclosed patio with covered seating, private parking for two cars and a service yard.
