Escape room with Houdini theme to open in Grantham

The town’s first escape room is to be opened by a local businessman in March.

The room will be opened by Jason Thickpenny at The Old Maltings off Springfield Road in Grantham. It will be situated in a room next to his existing Rocket Railways business which sells railway models.

The escape room will be called Houdini’s Workshop and will have a theme set around the great magician’s famous tricks. People will face a series of challenges based on Harry Houdini’s escape acts.

Jason will officially open the escape room on March 8. He is a self-confessed fan of escape rooms having visited around 200 of them, home and abroad.

Jason said: “It can become very addictive. Me and my other half have had so much fun with escape rooms and we thought it would be great to open one in this town. It’s about time Grantham had one.”

Jason says the Grantham venture will be suitable for families, couples and small groups. It will be an ‘entry level’ room suitable for people aged 12 upwards. They will be given one hour to solve the challenges and escape the room.

Jason says the Grantham adventure may well involve straitjackets and chains.

A ‘leader’ board will record each team’s times and there will be prizes for the best teams.

Jason added: “There will be plenty of suprises and some twists and turns. You will definitiely see something different.”

Jason has set up a website where people can get more information and book tickets.

The site says: “There’s nothing in this room that should scare you, but beware, not everything is as straight forward as it first looks and participants may start their games physically restrained.”

Jason says that if the escape room is a success he wants to set up another one with a railway theme.
