A man has denied being in possession of a machete in Grantham in April.

Joseph Donoghue has appeared in Lincoln Magistrates’ Court, accused of being in possession of the offensive weapon, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The 19-year-old, of Meredith Road, in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, denies the charges.

It is alleged that the machete was found in a silver BMW being driven by Donaghue after police stopped the vehicle in Bridge End Road, Grantham on April 10.

Donaghue was released on unconditional bail and told to appear back at the magistrates’ court for trial on November 3.
