Twenty tonnes of barley malt were destroyed by a fire at a factory in Grantham last night.

Firefighters attended Bairds Malt on Springfield Road just after 8pm. Eight pumps and an aerial ladder attended. There was also severe heat and smoke damage to a malt kiln.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, three main jets, one hose reel jet and thermal imaging cameras to tackle the fire.

Springfield Road and Harlaxton Road were both closed for several hours last night as firefighters dealt with the blaze.
