Grantham rocker and his brother both beat prostate cancer and now want to raise awareness of the disease with Resistance 77 gig in Nottingham
Two brothers who both beat prostate cancer recently are looking to raise awareness of the disease.
Jonny and Andy March, from Grantham and Mansfield respectively, were both diagnosed with stage one prostate cancer earlier this year.
Neither of the two brothers had any symptoms, and only found out after Andy, 57, had a routine medical.
After his diagnosis, Jonny, 54, was encouraged to get tested and discovered that he also had the disease.
The pair have since been given the all clear due to the early diagnoses, with both brothers having their prostate removed.
Jonny plays guitar for punk band Resistance 77, who have a special gig planned in Nottingham next month as part of their Kick Cancer in the Bo77ocks campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the disease.
The gig is at The Old Cold Store on November 26 from 1pm until 9pm, with five other bands set to perform /
Jonny added that prostate cancer is common among Resistance 77’s target demographic, which is men over 50.
He said: “The good news is that we have both now been treated and are clear for the time being due to the early diagnosis and action taken by (in my case) the NHS.
“My wife Michelle and family, friends, band members and our audience have been extremely supportive for which I'm very grateful. It's been a roller coaster!”
Jonny said that his wife was “amazing” when he was recovering from his operation. She also walked 100 miles during May, raising £1,300 for Prostate Cancer Research.
Jonny continued: “As well as using social media we have been collecting at gigs, including Blackpool Rebellion Festival, Punk on the Peninsula in Scotland and Nice and Sleazy in Morecambe.
“Keiron, our bass player’s four-year-old grandson, James, walked a sponsored two miles with school and raised a further £371 [for Prostate Cancer Research].
“Also, our lead singer Oddy is trekking in Nepal in November, raising funds for Macmillan.”

Jonny added: "The five other bands playing as well as ourselves are all good friends and happy to help and travelling quite a distance for little monetary reward, who are happy to support the campaign as well as play and have a good day.”
