Newton House Day Nursery and Start Right Nursery in Grantham both suffer break-ins
Two town centre nurseries were broken into within the space of two nights.
Newton House Day Nursery in Dysart Road was broken into at around 2am on yesterday (Thursday) morning, while Startright Day Nursery in Trent Road was the victim of a break between last night and this morning (Friday).
Sam Moss, of Newton House, said that a back window was smashed to gain access, but nothing was taken.
“However [the break-in] disrupted the children, staff and parents’ day,” continued Sam. “And we had to close while we waited for the police.”
Newton House reopened this morning after being closed for a day following the incident.
The window that was smashed led into the room where babies sleep in the nursery, with all of the cots left covered in glass yesterday morning.
Sam confirmed that the nursery had had to dispose of all the cots.
On Facebook, Newton House said: “We appreciate all of the kind words we have received and appreciate your patience with this unplanned closure of the nursery.”
Last night, Start Right Nursery was broken into, and was closed today (Friday) as a result.
Zac Bartholomew-Byrne, nursery manager, said: “We as a team have been deeply saddened that people have taken it upon themselves to enter a children's nursery in the middle of the night and effect the learning and enjoyment of enjoyment of small children.
“This senseless crime makes very little sense as we hold no cash in the nursery and puts so many people out.
“Unfortunately, we did have to close the nursery today to ensure the safety of the children but we will be reopening on Monday as normal after all safety checks have been met as safety of all involved is our number priority now and always.
“We are working very closely with the police and have passed on any CCTV footage we have and encourage anyone who has any information to pass it on to the police.”
