Eroding of our A&E network is hugely disturbing

In a recent meeting with Shadow Health minister Justin Madders MP at Westminster, I raised concerns regarding the loss of local A+E and
maternity services in the Grantham area. The influence of unaccountable NHSi in keeping Grantham A+E
closed at night is hugely concerning.

Grantham Labour Party members are calling for the restoration of our national A + E network. The recent news at Boston also highlighted the need to protect and restore paediatric and maternity services across the country. Research into both vital health services shows a shocking decline in the last decade.

We need a minimal acceptable level of service so restoring the ‘golden hour’ would be a key commitment of a future government. This will include the need to review emergency ambulances as well. The recent funding of £19m awarded EMAS is welcome but masks the underlying issues. The centralising of key services makes it harder for people to gain access themselves
and goes against NHS
principals.

NHS reports fail to reflect the patient’s experience from when help is first sought to when appropriate medical care is provided. This also masks the impact of delayed treatment on patients. The Health and Care Act must be revoked to halt the decline. Labour has made a commitment to do this. Lincolnshire MPs back the current Act.

In the meanwhile new development plans for our District reflect Government policy. We cannot afford to lose health services as Grantham is transformed from the rural historic market town into the economic hub SKDC plans it to be. This summer we will have a chance to have a say on those plans.
