Universal Credit claimants in South Kesteven increase




The number of Universal Credit claimants in the district has risen.

In South Kesteven, there were 10,380 claimants between April 10 and May 14. In comparison, the previous month saw 8,604 claimants.

The East Midlands as a whole has seen a 24.7% increase in claimants as of May 14, rising from 288,540 to 359,701.

There are currently over 100 jobs in Grantham and Stamford on the Job Centre's Find a Job website in a variety of roles such as security, teaching, domestic help, administration and care.

Minister for Employment Mims Davies MP said: “Today’s figures are starting to show the impact of Covid-19 on our economy, but our furlough scheme, grants, loans and tax cuts have protected thousands of businesses and millions of jobs, setting us up for recovery.

“Already our nationwide network of Work Coaches have moved in to support jobseekers across sectors and match them with employers who are recruiting.

"By responding to the needs of communities across the UK they will be at the heart of our revival and renewal, helping people find new roles and move forward with their lives.”

National Employer Training are running COVID-19 short e-learning programmes to help businesses and employees manage the return to work and provide guidance on how businesses should operate after they reopen to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
