University plan for Grantham?
The University of Lincoln is planning a ‘satellite’ centre in Grantham.
The potential move was revealed at a recent meeting of Grantham Business Club.
Then, InvestSK growth manager Jon Hinde spoke of future long-term business projects, including “9000 sq ft of Lincoln University coming to Grantham.”
No further details were given, but InvestSK, SKDC and the university say they are working on a scheme.
A university spokesperson told the Journal: “We are currently exploring the possibility of using space in Grantham to deliver some of our activities. The details of this are still in the preliminary stages and more information will be available in due course.”
SKDC cabinet member for Skills, Coun Jacky Smith said SKDC had long sought to develop higher education in Grantham to boost skills in the area.
“We are in conversation with a number of partners, including the University of Lincoln.”
Steve Bowyer, Invest SK’s investment lead said Mr Hinde is not working on the university ‘project.’ InvestSK had similar ambitions toSKDC on a range of higher education opportunities, which if delivered “will be a great catalyst for Grantham and the district.”
“We are working with key partners. Nothing is signed and sealed. We hope it comes off. It’s a hard slog. It doesn’t happen overnight.”
Grantham Business Club chair Sue Hodgson saw the prospective development as a “vote of confidence” in Grantham.”I see it as a similar satellite campus to that at Buxton from the University of Derby, and this can only be a good thing for individuals and businesses alike.” Another feather in the cap for Grantham, its people and its future.”
