South Witham villagers brand potholes 'terrible'
A resident of South Witham has described the potholes in the area as “terrible” and has urged the council to fix them as soon as possible.
Ian Haggerty, who has lived in the village for 25 years, said: “I know neighbours who have lost a wheel to the potholes around South Witham.
"It’s terrible. We pay council tax and there’s nothing to show for that. We’re not getting our money’s worth, which is potholes being fixed.
“One pothole on the lane at the top of Moor Lane takes up half of the road. You can’t drive normally in the area. It’s a disgrace.”
As well as Moor Lane, Ian said that there were more potholes on Wimberley Way, Templars Way and Great Close. With frosty and cold weather expected to continue throughout January, the potential for more potholes is high.
According to the council, repairs have been scheduled for all reported potholes in South Witham, with the one on Moor Lane expected to be sorted in around a week’s time.
Councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “I’m sorry to hear that drivers have been having problems with potholes in South Witham. Repairs are scheduled to take place in the village over the next week.
“Last year we filled over 90,000 potholes and resurfaced over 400 miles of Lincolnshire’s 5,500 mile road network.
“As wet and frosty winter weather causes potholes to form quickly, we’ve got additional crews out fixing potholes on our roads right through until spring.
“I’d urge anyone who comes across a pothole to report it online at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk and we will do everything we can to repair it quickly. Dangerous defects are often dealt with within 24 hours, while more minor defects can take a few weeks.”
