Grantham Passage distribute food packages to the vulnerable

Volunteers have been delivering weekly food packages to help those in need.

Homelessness charity Grantham Passage has organised and distributed packages to its clients for the last three weeks to ensure that no one goes hungry during lockdown.

The food parcels, delivered every Saturday, contain items that are tinned or dried, easy to prepare and can be heated, cooked or stored with access to very little facilities. So far, 159 food packages have been delivered to those in need across the town.

It has been a team effort from Grantham Passage volunteers, such as Stephen Cameron, Jo Counsell and Andy Maddison, with Chris Thomas working as co-ordinator of the food parcels and responsible for organising food collections and arranging the collation of the parcels.

A spokesperson for Grantham Passage said: “We deliver these to the clients on a weekly basis, observing all relevant distancing and hygiene rules. Delivering to the clients also means that we can check with them to ensure that they are OK and offer any other support that they may need.

“We are delivering twice as many as four weeks ago which is great and means those who need it are getting our help.

“We would like to heartily thank all the individuals and organisations helping to provide food so we can make the weekly packs bigger and better.”
