Walton Girls' ranked top school in Grantham for progress
Walton Girls’ High School has been ranked as the top school in Grantham for progress following publication of the Department for Education’s performance tables.
The tables, which were released this week, showed that the academy achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.63, placing it ‘well above average’ among english schools and ranking Walton in overall first position, ahead of all the schools in Grantham including the grammar schools.
This result also places Walton as the highest performing non-selective school in Lincolnshire.
Progress 8 measures how much progress pupils have made between the end of Key Stage 2 and the end of Key Stage 4 compared to pupils across England. Additionally, Progress 8 Attainment scores score are based on how well pupils have performed in up to eight qualifications which include English, Maths, Sciences, Computer Science, History, Geography and Modern Foreign Languages.
Walton’s Progress 8 Attainment score of 48.2 was also an increase for the academy and is above the Local Education Authority average of 46.4 and the English average of 44.3.
The results follow another successful year for Walton both at GCSE and A Level, taking the academy a step closer to becoming an ‘outstanding’ rated school.
Principal, Caroline Saxelby, said: “I am delighted and proud of our top position in the newly released performance tables.
"Walton is well above the national average in all measures. The academy has the highest quality academic provision, outstanding pastoral care and teachers who have very high expectations.
"Our students work extremely hard and are determined to achieve their very best. We have embedded a culture of excellence at Walton in which all students thrive. These results put us in the top 4 per cent of secondary schools nationally, and we will certainly be celebrating such success!”
