Grantham woman proposes to partner after charity event to celebrate beating cancer




A woman proposed to her partner after holding a fundraiser to celebrate beating cancer.

Sarah Perry, 46, popped the question to her partner Nick Wiles, 60, during a charity fundraiser that she organised at Grantham Railway Club on Saturday.

The pair met just 20 days before Sarah's breast cancer diagnosis in April 2022, and Nick stood by her.

One year on, she has received the all clear organised the event, which she said was “amazing”, to “give something back" by raising just over £500 for Cancer Research UK.

Sarah said that local people and organisations donated a “huge amount” of raffle prizes for the event, which was “overwhelming”.

During a speech that she made at the event, Sarah said: “The last year has been the hardest year of my entire life. I don’t envy anyone going through cancer. The worst part of it was chemotherapy.

“I’ve got all my closest friends here tonight who have been such a support to me and my work friends as well.”

Sarah then called Nick up to the front to thank him.

“I met Nick only 20 days before I was diagnosed”, continued Sarah.

“I said he could walk, but he didn’t and he’s still here.”

Sarah added that “it takes a real man to stand by his partner” through a situation like cancer.

Before proposing to Nick, Sarah said: “I said to you I would do it when the bell rang but I wanted to do it in front of all of my friends.”

He said yes, to the delight of Sarah.
