Lincolnshire County Council provide update on Grantham Southern Relief Road including A1 bridge works
Works to rectify issues with the new A1 bridge have been completed as part of the ongoing Grantham Relief Road project.
Lincolnshire County Council has shared a progress update for the Grantham Southern Relief Road during the month of July.
Remedial bridge joint and surfacing works were carried out at the new A1 bridge, part of phase two of the project, which was deemed not up to standard.
In order to complete the works, the A1 near Grantham was closed for up to five nights last month.
Other works relating to phase three of the project, which includes the construction of a bridge connecting the B1174 roundabout and Somerby roundabout, were also completed during July,
This included a ‘pull test’ on a bridge pier in the west side of the site and excavation works relating to a pier in the east.
In August, the removal of the surcharge to the west abutment will begin, and there will be reinforcement and concrete works to a pier on the east side of the site.
Lane restrictions around the B1174 roundabout will continue to facilitate the construction of the haul route and access into the site.
