Dancers took part in a seven-hour danceathon at Grantham School of Dancing to raise money for a fellow dancer who is battling cancer.

The 11-year-old dancer was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour earlier this year and now faces surgery.

While she undergoes chemotherapy, she is unable to have visitors aside from family, so her dance school friends organised a danceathon to raise money for a laptop so she can stay in touch with them all while she’s recovering in hospital.

The dancers strutted their moves to ballet, tap, acro and modern with abit of eighties’ music thrown in for the parents.

Natalie Sharpe works in the school office and helped to organise the day. She said: “We are all missing her deeply and we know that she is missing her dance family, so we were so pleased that everyone made such an effort.

“Parents and staff joined in and even a few of the girls who had already left the school came back especially to take part.

“It was made extra special as her sister, who also attends the dance school, came along and danced her heart out for the entire seven hours.”

There’s still time to donate.

Natalie added: “We won’t know the final figure raised until half-term, but we are certainly hopeful that we will have enough for a laptop and some other lovely gifts for her.”
