Harrowby United beat Saffron Dynamo in the United Counties League

Harrowby United defied a lengthy list of player availability issues to make it back-to-back wins in the United Counties League on Wednesday night.

The Arrows had nine players missing for their Division One trip to Leicestershire to face Saffron Dynamo.

But they produced a superb performance to return with a 2-0 victory and move within a point of the play-off spots, writes Mark Fardell.

New signing Jesse Anderson was on target while Max Baker scored for the second successive game as Harrowby followed up Saturday's win at Lutterworth Athletic.

Saffron had been the better side for the opening 20 minutes of the match which was played on a heavy pitch at Cambridge Road in Cosby.

However, Harrowby grew into the game and, from a swift break, Anderson finished well to put the visitors ahead.

It gave the Arrows something to build on and Saffron struggled to create chances with Lewis Marsh and Kemal Yeniberitz outstanding at the heart of their defence.

Saffron's best chance to equalise saw Harrowby goalkeeper Jake Frestle produce a fantastic save to keep his side ahead.

Harrowby started to grow more into the game after the super save and doubled their lead before the break.

A fine through ball from skipper Jack Gurney ended with Toby Lee beating his man and being brought down by the keeper for a penalty.

Baker stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot to give Harrowby a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Mathias Amponsem replaced Ewan Armstrong at the break as the Arrows looked to sure things up and be hard to beat.

Saffron struggled to penetrate the Arrows back line and also keeper Frestle who had a solid game.

Harrowby saw the game out well from probably one of their best performances of the season where every player put in a proper shift.

They now face another crunch clash on Saturday when seventh-placed Birstall United are the visitors to the JRL Stadium.

The Leicestershire side are just two points behind the Arrows in the league table and also have a game in hand.
