Harrowby United beat West Bridgford in the United Counties League
Harrowby United maintained their play-off push with a hard-fought victory over West Bridgford on Tuesday night.
The Arrows ran out 4-2 winners in the United Counties League Division One clash at the JRL Brickwork Stadium.
Elliot King marked his return to the club from Newark Town with a goal along with fellow recent new recruit Jesse Anderson.
Tom Harris and Lewis Marsh hit the other goals which moved the Arrows into sixth spot, four points outside the play-off places, writes Mark Fardell.
King's return was the only change to the starting line-up following Saturday's 1-1 draw with his former club.
He took the place of Jack Gurney who was injured while the Arrows were boosted by the returns of Luke Peberdy and Brima Daramy to the substitutes' bench.
Harrowby started the game well and raced into a two-goal lead early on.
They broke the deadlock when a great corner from Charlie Hart was headed home by Anderson.
Moments later, a fine run from the dangerous Harris ended with him finishing into the bottom left-hand corner.
Harrowby then took their foot off the pedal and the game started to lack much quality with Bridgford defending deep and playing direct football to their dangerous ex-Arrows forward Aboubacar Sylla.
The visitors got back into the game when Harrowby twice failed to clear corners and William Gillies put the chance away while free in the box.
Harrowby were on top and comfortable but, only having a goal lead, meant West Bridgford were always in the game.
The second half started perfectly for Harrowby as another great corner from Hart was headed home by King.
However, Bridgford soon hit back and, with the Arrows defence waiting for an offside flag, Sylla beat goalkeeper Jake Frestle to the ball to tap home to cut the deficit by one again.
With the Arrows still on top, the next goal was the all important one and it went to the hosts when a fantastic cross from Jon Smith was headed home by Marsh.
This seemed to deflate the visitors who had put a great effort into the game to bely their league position.
Harrowby saw out the game on a difficult night which should have been a lot more comfortable but it was the three points that mattered to keep them in with a shout of the play-offs.
They now face a very tough fixture on Saturday when Radford are the visitors who themselves have play-offs aspirations.
