Harrowby United beat West Bridgford in the United Counties League

Harrowby completed a quick-fire double over West Bridgford and ex-Arrows boss Russ Cousins after a tough-looking trip to Tuesday night.

The Arrows had won 4-2 in the first United Counties League meeting of the two sides at the end of last month.

And they maintained their hopes of a top five finish and a play-off place in Division One as Harry Allcock's solitary strike settled the contest against a fired-up home team, writes Mark Fardell.

Harrowby were unchanged from the win over Sandiacre on Saturday with Richard Kankam returning to the bench while there was a welcome back to the squad for Max Baker who has missed six weeks through injury.

From the first whistle, Bridgford were well up for the match and their direct style of play caused the Arrows problems with the visitors struggling to get any sort of rhythm to their game.

Harrowby were dealt a blow midway through the first half as Kemal Yeniberitz had to be substituted for a head injury. He was replaced by Kankam in a back three with Lewis Marsh and Harrison Dee.

Harrowby got the all-important first goal before the break as a mistake in the Bridgford defence allowed the ball to fall to top scorer Allcock and he finished well.

Towards the end of the half, Jon Smith started to test full-back Ben Millard and a couple of chances from crosses came and went.

Bridgford were always dangerous and just before half-time the Arrows had a let off as a corner was swung in and a free header came back off the post with goalkeeper Jake Frestle beaten.

Bridgford again started the better side after the break and Harrowby's defence had to work hard to keep them at bay.

Kankam made a couple of well-timed challenges and, as the game opened up, one goal didn't look enough for the Arrows.

Baker made his long-awaited return and Harrowby did start to create some chances late on.

Smith again did well to find Elliot King who somehow missed his kick when in front of goal while Allcock had the ball in the net but the referee saw an obstruction on the keeper.

Allcock then had a goalbound effort which somehow the defender headed off the line as the Arrows searched for the comfort of a two-goal lead.

With time running out, a big moment in the game saw Bridgford's winger through but Frestle made a full stretch save to his left to keep the Arrows in front.

Harrowby saw the game out for a crucial three points in what was a tough night and Bridgford were unfortunate not to get anything from the game.

Harrowby are without a fixture at the weekend before a double-header over the Easter period.

They travel to Gedling Miners Welfare next Saturday before hosting Holwell Sports on Easter Monday.
