Balin Beni of Grantham Running Club takes part in the Monorierdei Festival while on holiday in Hungary

Grantham Running Club member Balin Beni decided to take part in the Monorierdei Festival while on holiday in Hungary.

Beni joined more than 400 participants in the challenging yet inspiring event which tested the endurance and resilience of the competitors.

He took part in the half marathon which was particularly challenging with the extreme heat (temperatures reached 35 degrees) and sandy terrain.

The lack of shaded areas made it even more difficult to maintain a steady pace and, after the halfway mark, Beni started Jeffing (run walking).

However, the incredible support from the organising team and volunteers kept him going.

The water stations every two kilometres, offering ice, fruits and salt tablets, were a lifesaver and the volunteers were providing additional water spray to compensate for the heat.

After crossing the finish line, Beni commented that the medal was the most beautiful he had ever had.

Despite it being Beni's slowest ever half marathon time, finishing in 2:19:01, he was just pleased to finish and not get heatstroke.
