Members of Belvoir Tri Club take part in the Newark Castle Sportive and Burghley Multisport events

There was sunshine and miles and miles of cycling at the weekend as 12 members of Belvoir Tri Club lined up to take on the Newark Castle Sportive and Burghley Multisport events.

In the morning, temperatures were rising and by 8am it was 16 degrees and the atmosphere around the start line inside the grounds of Newark Castle was buzzing with excitement as more riders started to arrive and set off for their chosen distance.

For those that aren’t quite ready for the long distance (104 miles) two shorter sportive distances of 34 miles and 62 miles were also available which meant that regardless of your cycling background there was something for everyone.

Upon leaving the Castle grounds, part of the route for all cyclists headed towards Long Bennington where riders were greeted and cheered on by some of the club's junior squad and other members.

All feed stations were taken advantage of, especially in the mid-afternoon sun where some club members had chosen the 104 mile route and had to make sure they stayed hydrated.

All cyclists finished back into the castle grounds and were given a medal upon finishing.

Matt Hine decided to swop some of the cycling miles for the Burghley standard distance duathlon at Burghley House.

The standard distance started with a 10k run, a 40k fast and flat road bike course before finishing with a 5k run around the lower part of the park in front of the house itself.

Matt was pleased with his efforts around the course and is looking forward to next year's event to do it all again.
