Sudbrook Moor Golf Club round-up
Jim Carr has hit top gear to triumph in one of the two senior annual majors at Sudbrook Moor which was concluded last week.
An Order of Merit Series of medal scores is created annually, with the accumulated points for each player’s monthly ranking. Only a player's best six scores of a possible 12 count.
Jim put up a great challenge in the late season, disrupting the running Order of Merit, with magnificent top scoring in both October and November and climbed rapidly from 10th place.
The title of Senior Golfer of the Year and the prestigious 'trophy for excellence', as inscribed on the trophy, are Jim’s.
His handicap index is currently 23.7, which reflects a creditable reduction from 26 earlier in his most recent playing career.
Not only did Jim find a successful groove in the autumn, but others of the 48 entrants made it exciting to the very end.
In particular, Phil Keogh’s November scorecard lifted him from sixth place to the runner-up spot, sharing the same points as Jim Carr.
Joe Green, Mark Murphy, Paul McCarthy, Roy Nelson, Bryan Heydinger and Michael Coupland all put in late challenges with superb medal scores.
The Monthly winners who gained top points, somewhere along the 12 month journey were: Jim Carr (three times); Phil Keogh; Ian Batty; Pete Armstrong; Peter Stoneman; Roger Newton; Mick Jones; Chris Shaw; Mark Murphy and Mike Carelton.
Major winner and Senior Golfer of the Year 2023 was Jim Carr with runner-up as Phil Keogh.
