The Coen Cup competition is played at Belton Woods Golf Club
A unique tournament where all members sections are able to compete and raise money for the juniors has been held at Belton Woods Golf Club.
The Coen Cup is open to all juniors, ladies, seniors and men and is played each year in September.
The cup was first played for in September 2018 and is to acknowledge the fine contribution made to the club and hotel by the then outgoing general manager Seamus Coen.
It is a Stableford format held on the Lakes course, played from the red and white tees.
Each year there has been a prize giving ceremony after the competition where the trophies are presented by Seamus himself who travels down from St Andrews in Scotland.
Over the years the competition has become a day not to be missed as Seamus still has a great rapport with the members of Belton Woods.
The Belton Woods junior section is a very positive group that is administered by organiser Ken Claxon with coaching from PGA professional Iain Fulton.
This year after the tournament there was a full clubhouse for the presentation and an auction to raise funds for the juniors.
Seamus Coen, who is general Manager of the Rusacks Hotel at St Andrews, had come with determination to raise as much money as possible and had organised some superb auction prizes and close to £5,000 was raised for the junior section.
Prize winners of the tournament were: Coen Shield (juniors) six hole nett score - 1 Luke Buckavs 16, 2 Darcey Myers 17, 3 Cameron Twist 17; Junior Coen Cup (best placed junior in main competition) - Daniel Agapito; Coen Cup - 1 Sam Hill 43, 2 Chris Mckeen 42, 3 Mick Allison 41; Nearest the pins - Daniel Agapito (fifth men), Simon Welsh (11th men), Gaynor Palframan (11th ladies).
