AFC Colsterworth Sports and Social Club beat Southwell City Development in the Nottinghamshire Senior League

AFC Colsterworth Sports and Social Club moved to the top of the Division Two table in the Nottinghamshire Senior League on Saturday.

The Apples hit back after going behind in their home match with Southwell City Development to run out 5-1 winners.

The hosts went a goal down early on when a defensive error allowed Jordan Barnes to go through clean on goal and slot the ball into the net.

The reaction was impressive and, after good play, Alfie Sheen equalised to make the score 1-1 at half-time.

Colsterworth came out for the second half and once again put pressure on the visitors and it wasn't long before substitute and top goalscorer Sam Scothern was brought on and, with his second touch, he put the Apples ahead.

Junior Gaskin then made it three before Scothern got his brace and Colsterworth's fourth.

A fantastic performance was capped off when Nathan Brettoner, who had been a nuisance all game, made the final score 5-1.

The victory moved Colsterworth above Rushcliffe into top spot on goal difference while also having two games in hand.

They travel to third-placed Shirebrook Soldiers on Saturday with their hosts two points behind the Apples having played two games more.
