Grantham Town Under 16s are through to the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire County Cup

Grantham Town Under 16s are through to the semi-final of the Lincolnshire County Cup following a comfortable seven-goal success over Gainsborough Trinity Blue at the weekend.

The Gingerbreads started the game really well by playing some nice confident football, with great movement and assured passing.

All of the early pressure was held in the half of the home side and, as Town continued to dominate the ball, they started to work the Trinity keeper with more regularity.

As such Grantham eased to a three-goal lead by half-time.

It could have been more but the visitors failed to take advantage of the frequent crosses swinging into Gainsborough penalty area from the wide areas.

The second half saw Trinity come out with a more determined attitude, committing more players to the forward press.

Grantham generally coped very well and remained composed at the back, but again probably should have made more of the opportunities when playing through or past the advances of the hosts.

As the game wore on, Gainsborough started to tire and Grantham’s assured possession paid dividends, scoring a further four goals with some neat finishing and thoughtful build up play.

Overall it was an impressive display by Town who can now look forward to the semi-finals next month.

Scotter Colts, Appleby Frodingham Saints and Boston United Community are the other sides through to the last four.
