Sudbrook Moor Golf Club round-up

Excellence is recognised and rewarded in Sudbrook Moor's half year Senior Eclectic Trophy results.

The weekly scores returned in the senior Thursday stroke play competitions, between October and March, are compiled into an order of merit of each player's best score on each of the 18 holes.

It presents a personal challenge as the season progresses and it's never over until the final score goes on the board.

What can look like a comfortable lead, can be snatched away by another's surprise birdie or even an unexpected eagle.

That's just how the final results evolved over the winter months as Nigel Corby turned the final ranking with two exceptional shots.

Six index player, Nigel birdied the longest hole on the course and his holed approach shot on a par four that turned into an eagle were part of transforming his place among the eclectic leaders into being the overall winner and trophy holder.

Nigel has won this trophy countless times but the excitement and delight of yet another achievement is part of his DNA, an ingredient that makes a winner.

His winning eclectic tally included two gross eagles and 10 gross birdies, about which Nigel commented, 'there was still room for improvement.'

The excitement is renewed all over again as the six-month summer eclectic challenge starts this week with a blank sheet of results and 20 weekly stroke play competitions.

The winter prizes were allocated in two handicap divisions and the results were tightly packed, as ever, over the competition's 30 year history.

Trophy and overall winner - Nigel Corby; overall runner-up - Ian Batty; other leading scores in Division One - Richard Cocks and Andy Milner; lead score in Division Two (for indexes 21+) - Paul Johnson, from Phil Keogh, Barry Smith and Peter Stoneman.
