Mike Fox wins the Ron Boxell Trophy at Sudbrook Moor Golf Club

New this year to Sudbrook Moor's senior competitions, Mike Fox has come through to the end of the season having won a trophy title.

In the matchplay knock-outs, playing for the Ron Boxell Trophy, those who do not get through round one, slip into the consolation plate rounds and have the opportunity to play on.

Mike met Harry Cutmore, Peter Climpson and Phil Keogh on the way through to the plate final where he faced regular sparring partner, Steve Furphy.

On finals day, Steve took the early lead, but Mike was never far behind, and vitally kept the match alive with his stronger finish over holes 17 and 18.

A fairly short-lived sudden-death unfolded over the next two holes where Mike's decisive golf continued.

After a halved 19th hole, a tidier 20th hole finished off what had been a very close final and secured the victory and the Ron Boxell Matchplay Plate for Mike.
