Former Kesteven & Grantham Girls School pupil Freya Colbert has been selected for the Olympic Games
A former Kesteven & Grantham Girls School pupil has secured her place at this summer's Olympic Games.
Swimmer Freya Colbert booked her spot at the Paris showpiece after a successful outing at the Speedo Aquatics Great Britain Championships this week.
The 20-year-old won the 200m freestyle race with a time that was inside the 1:56.85 individual nomination mark.
She led a quartet of Abbie Wood, Medi Harris and Lucy Hope whose combined times qualified them by virtue of securing the women's 4x200m freestyle relay place at the Games.
Freya said: "It's nice to take that bit of pressure off selection.
"I know I have booked my ticket on the Eurostar with that swim so it's a great way to start the week."
Colbert went into the championships after success on the world stage in February.
She won a gold medal after taking first place in the women's 400m medley on the final day of the championships in Doha.
The Loughborough Performance Centre star commented: "I had a bit of a build year last year.
"I think I swam well in Japan at the World Championships and was pleased with the result, but I was always looking for that extra step further.
"This has been the best preparation for my Olympic year that I really could have asked for and everything is going my way so far and hopefully it’ll continue to do that."
Colbert has also represented England at the Commonwealth Games where she won a bronze medal.
She won three gold medals at the 2023 British Swimming Championships last year in the 400 metres freestyle, the 800 metres freestyle and the 400 metres medley.
