Grantham team host tournament and then go on to win in
Grantham Tennis Club’s netball team won their first all-day tournament at The Meres leisure centre on Sunday.
Up against eight other teams, the ladies won two of their three group matches, placing them second in their group. This meant they would face the winning team in the opposing group in the semi-final match.
Feeling somewhat exhausted after several matches in hot conditions, the ladies found their energy and played brilliantly in the semi-final, beating Newark Castle Keepers 11-6.
They then went into their final against Grantham Cougars with very strong defence and attack tactics, and everyone worked tirelessly for the entire match, which lasted 24-minutes. The dedication and hard work paid off and GTC won the final 14-4 against strong opposition.
Team captain Liz Stokes said: "I’ve never seen the ladies play this well. The entire team played flawlessly in the final, had great tactics, and gave everything in challenging temperatures.
"I couldn’t have been more proud, and throughout the day every player gave 100 per cent, despite very hot conditions and several injuries. We narrowly lost the last B2N tournament by only one goal, so to win this one was fantastic for the whole team."
GTC netball has a wonderful team of adults and juniors, a coach, and great support from the club manager. They are sponsored by The Grantham Log Company and have practice nights every Monday from 8-9pm at the tennis club. The practice sessions are open to members and non-members and cost £3 per session. New players welcome.
