Grantham Tennis Club teams can not stop winning

Grantham Tennis Club Mini Red first team played a tight match against Boston A last weekend, with Grantham winning 9-7.

In the training sessions during the week, players had worked on improving their focus during matches. This showed with a great win against a strong Boston team after many close tie-breaks. Representing Grantham were Thomas Jeffrey, Taylor Sang, Finley Schwartz and Archie Killen-Smith.

The club's Mini Green first team took on St James and won convincingly with a score of five rubbers to one. Grantham were Josh Harris, Marc Blake, Toby Cullen and Thomas Concarr.

The boys' U12s played well to beat Deeping by a score of five rubbers to one with the team of Alex Harris, Harry Chambers, Jamie Sadler and James Timms.

Grantham Tennis Club's Red third team played very well to beat Stamford 11-1. Representing Grantham were Isla Hastings, Lillian Stevens, Zoe Pitcher and Lily-Rose Germaine.

Grantham A played Farnsfield A in the Slazenger Notts Ladies' Winter League.

With four wins and a draw over the season, Grantham ladies A finished at the top of Division Five and look forward to promotion for next winter.

Pictured are last week's team: Jackie Wilson, Jeanette Turland, Sheena Gordine, Liz Stokes, Helen Culleton and Ros Elphick with members of the Farnsfield team. Other regular players for the team not pictured were Sue Cox, Sue Rowland, Pam Aust, Laura Dixon, Yvonne Walker and Jenny Stone.

Grantham Tennis Club's men's fifth team played their Nottinghamshire League match last Saturday, beating Keyworth Tennis Club 56 games to 52. Representing Grantham were Sam and Max Wright, Steve Swain and Matthew Brookes, and Rob Curtis and Peter Elphick.

Grantham's sixth mixed doubles team finished its Notts LTA Winter League campaign with the closest of wins away at Mansfield.

The score was 53-55 on games.

That placed Grantham third in Division 10 with the possibility of second and promotion depending on other outcomes. The team consisted of Sarah Medcalf with Mike Roys, captain Chris Pye-Smith with Gaynor Milford, and Sue Baxter with Tom Greenwood, playing his debut match for the club.
