Grantham Town boss ‘Stevo’ says they will take one game at a time
Grantham Town joint boss Adam Stevens says he and co-manager Wayne Hallcro are taking one game at a time.
Following on from Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to lowly placed Marine, the managerial pair take the Gingerbreads to Stourbridge tomorrow with a side that Stevens says is good enough to stay in the higher echelons of the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Steven said: “We feel with the squad we have, that we are in a good position to finish as high in the league as we possibly can. We are in the top 10 and there is no reason why we cannot stay there.
“However, we will only take one game at a time. We have worked on keeping a decent shape and have consistently improved that over the last few games.
“Over the last couple of weeks, we have added to the strength of the squad. We have got a number of big players in there now who know the league. Players like Rhys Lewis are vital to us given their experience at this level to help the youngsters learn their trade.
“The squad have a great desire to win games and the spirit in the dressing room is great at the moment. We are re-building and need people to be patient with us at times, as there will still be times when it doesn’t work for us in a game – hopefully very few.”
Stevens praised several players including Gingerbreads returnee Ben Saunders who he said would be good for on-loan Daniel Cockerline who is now with the team on “an ongoing basis” from Sheffield United.
Grantham travel to Stourbridge on Saturday. In their last four league games, Stourbridge have lost 3-0 at Ashton United, won 3-0 at home to Witton Albion, lost 3-0 at Rushall Olympic and drawn 1-1 at home to Halesowen Town.
They are on a four-game unbeaten run at home and beat league leaders Skelmersdale United 1-0 at the beginning of December. It ill be the first time the two sides have met for 17 seasons.
The Glassboys expect Keiran Morris to be out injured, whilst central defender Will Richards is serving a suspension.
A quite formidable strike force includes Luke Benbow, Kayleden Brown and Josh Morgan-Parker.
The Gingerbreads’ next home game is next Saturday, January 24, when King’s Lynn Town will visit The Meres.
