Grantham Town lost by a single second-half goal at a cold and windy Meres on Saturday.
Following an evenly balanced first half, expectations were that the Gingerbreads would be able to step it up a gear after the break when the wind was more in their favour.
However, Grantham were undone in the 75th minute, with Dave McTiernan scoring his 10th of the season from a Lee Mason cross.
The goal seemed to come as something of a shock to the Gingerbreads who then lost much of their shape.
Home goalkeeper Jake Turner prevented Grantham from going further behind in the 88th minute, saving from point blank range after his defence allowed striker Steven Snaith free rein in front of goal.
Grantham Town: Turner, Purcicoe (c), Wholey, Kay, Hellewell, Miveld, Meadows, Lewis, Read, Hurst, Ndlovu (Emmott, 71). Subs not used: Rawdon, Bilyk, Johnson, Rhule.
