Grantham Town’s unbeaten run ends at Workington

Premier Division
Workington 2
Grantham Town 1
Grantham Town missed out by a single day on remaining unbeaten in January.
The Gingerbreads’ run came to an end on Saturday when they lost by the odd goal at Workington.
Town took an early lead when Danny Meadows put them in front from the penalty spot after Connor Johnson was tripped by Josh Calvert in the 18-yard box.
But the home side were back on level terms 10 minutes later when Grantham keeper Jake Turner’s clearance went to Workington’s Gavin Skelton who volleyed home.
Grantham went behind on 26 minutes following a corner kick, with Scott Allison cheekily back-heeling the ball over the goal line from close range.
Neither side created much after the break, Town’s best chances coming from Ben Saunders and Rhys Lewis.
Grantham Town: Turner, Kay, Rawdon, Batchelor, Hellewell, Miveld, Meadows, Lewis, Johnson (Bilyk, 65), Saunders, Emmett. Subs not used: Divver, Wholey, Newman, Rhule.
