Bottesford and District Angling Association host the Norman Chenoweth Memorial Shield on Grantham Canal
The Bottesford and District Angling Association's latest match of the season was held on Sunday.
A sunny and hot day greeted the nine anglers on the Grantham Canal half-mile pound to compete for the Norman Chenoweth Memorial Shield.
The canal fished really well and, with some tench starting to show, the weights were very good.
John Harrison won the competition and was presented with the memorial shield after winning with 10lb 3oz.
His catch consisted of two tench weighing 5lbs and 4lbs 6oz respectively caught on worm and sweetcorn over some ground bait, chopped worm and dead maggots. His weight was backed up with some perch and rudd caught on maggot.
In second place was Tommy Andrews with 4lb 11oz and Brian Cross finished third with 4lb 9oz.
The next B&DAA scheduled match is on June 2 and is for the Ted Stokes Memorial Trophy.
This match is to be held on the Grantham canal with the draw taking place on the towpath at 9am.
The Friday evening match series for the John Bradshaw Trophy starts on June 7 on the canal.
The series will run over eight consecutive Fridays, concluding on July 26, with the draw taking place on the towpath at 5.45pm and fishing for three hours (light depending).
The angler showing the best six results out of eight matches wins the series/trophy. Any angler wishing to fish are requested to contact the match secretary to book a place.
Bottesford and District Angling Association is a small friendly club and would welcome any angler to join and enjoy all genres of fishing.
The club has regular matches and holds the fishing rights on the Grantham Canal from Woolsthorpe by Belvoir (top lock 18) to Redmile (Bridge 54).
Annual membership books are available at very reasonable prices on the towpath from the bailiffs or via online. Day tickets are also available on the towpath.
