Harrowby United draw with Leicester St Andrews in the United Counties League
A Jekyll and Hyde performance saw Harrowby United hit back from two goals down to earn a point at Leicester St Andrews on Saturday.
Nothing went right for the Arrows in the first half of the United Counties League contest and they trailed by two goals at the break.
However, second half strikes from Elliot King and Tom Harris secured a share of the spoils which moved Harrowby into the Division One play-off spots following defeats for both Dunkirk and Birstall, writes Mark Fardell.
Harrowby had made the trip buoyed by their midweek win over Birstall last Tuesday and they should have taken an early lead but King failed to convert a free header.
A couple more dangerous crosses were then dealt with by the home keeper before Harrowby found themselves a goal down.
A long ball was played out wide and winger Brandon Hands did well to turn inside and score across Jake Frestle in the Harrowby goal.
The goal failed to spark a reaction from Harrowby and St Andrews went two up just before half time when Lewis Marsh fouled Liam Canavan and he stepped up to score the penalty.
It left the Arrows with it all to do in the second half and they brought on Toby Lee at the interval.
Harrowby emerged a different side and were soon back in the game when Harris shot across the keeper and into the net.
It was all Harrowby now with a lot more control and creating chances with Lee making a difference when he came on.
Harrowby were soon level when a cross was whipped in by Gurney and touched home by King.
St Andrews were now having to defend with Harrowby introducing Harrison Dee and Ewan Armstrong to aid their search for a winner and the home keeper made two good saves to keep the visitors at bay.
Harrowby then thought they had taken the lead as the ball found the net from a Gurney strike, but amazingly the referee saw an obstruction on the keeper by Jon Smith and disallowed it.
More blocks by the St Andrews defence continued to keep Harrowby out as they returned home with a point.
They now host Sandiacre at the JRL Brickwork Stadium on Saturday where they will need to improve on their first half display if they have aspirations of making the play-offs.
Their midweek match at Clifton All Whites on Tuesday night was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
