Harrowby United beat Sandiacre in the United Counties League

Harrowby continued their play-off push with a four-goal home success over Sandiacre at the JRL Brickwork Stadium on Saturday.

Elliot King scored twice with Jesse Anderson and Kemal Yeniberitz also on target as the Arrows maintained their grip on fifth place in Division One of the United Counties League.

They were boosted by the return of top scorer Harry Allcock after six weeks out injured for a must-win match.

Jack Arbon, Richard Kankam and Charlie Hart were all absent though so Harrison Dee came into the side to form a back three with Lewis Marsh and Yeniberitz.

The Arrows took time to get into their stride with a dogged Sandiacre team making it hard to get through their packed defence.

Too often in the first 30 minutes a final pass was lacking or some composure in the final third was missing.

Former Harrowby player Garry Doran in the Sandiacre goal looked like he was going to frustrate the Arrows with some good saves in the first half.

And it was the visitors who looked like they would take the lead against the run of play, only for great blocks from Anderson and Marsh to deny Sandiacre.

Harrowby made the all-important breakthrough late in the first half as Allcock slipped in the in-form King and his left foot shot found the corner of the net past Doran.

The goal made for a different second half with the Arrows relaxed and controlling most of the contest as Sandiacre tired following their efforts in the opening period.

A crucial second goal arrived on the hour mark as a fierce shot from Liam Harper was handled and King put away the resultant spot kick.

This seemed to deflate the visitors and they had no answer to Jack Gurney's dead ball deliveries as another corner was headed home by Yeniberitz for the Arrows' third goal.

The win was wrapped up with 15 minutes remaining as the impressive Anderson headed home another great corner from Gurney to leave the Arrows cruising to victory.

Manager Jamie McGhee was then able to give returning players a rest as the bench was used in what was a vital win in their pursuit off the play-offs.

Harrowby head to West Bridgford tonight (Tuesday) looking to do the double over the Nottinghamshire side after a 4-2 win in their first meeting at the end of last month.
