Bottesford and District Angling Association stage their traditional Christmas Fur and Feather match at Willow Lakes, Foston

The final fixture of the 2024-2025 season for the Bottesford and District Angling Association was the traditional Christmas Fur and Feather match which was held at Willow Lakes, Foston, on Sunday.

The continued aftermath of Storm Darragh resulted in an extremely cold and very wet day for the nine hardy anglers who competed.

The torrential rain resulting in the cold water entering the lake dampened the fishes appetites and they proved very difficult to tempt.

This resulted in low weights and anglers struggling for bites but Dave Houlton succeeded in winning the match with 14lb 10oz.

Nick Pounder secured second place with 10lb 6oz with John Davies completing the top three with 8lb.

The match was followed by the anglers meeting in the Bull Inn, Bottesford, to thaw out and attend the Christmas prize giving and fundraising raffle.

The Association president, Brian Cross, also presented Tommy Andrews with the Ted Sokes Memorial Trophy.

The Bottesford and District Angling Association has regular matches and holds the fishing rights on the Grantham Canal from Woolsthorpe by Belvoir (top lock 18) to Redmile (Bridge 54). The canal has no close season so you can fish all year round.

Annual membership books are available on the towpath from the bailiff's or via online. Day tickets are also available on the towpath.
