Ian Batty posts one of the best eclectic scores in the history of Sudbrook Moor Golf Club

It is s quite an achievement when the lowest handicap player participating in the Thursday Senior events records the winning eclectic nett score.

Ian Batty, currently with an index of 5.7, produced the best score of all the 30 senior competitors at Sudbrook Moor.

The allowance of 50 per cent of handicap index usually impacts the final scoreboard and Ian's 2.5 allowance was meagre but the scorecard tells the story.

The computer dealt with 6,689 holes of golf during the winter season 2023-2024 and an average of three scores a month were accumulated from the seven months' results.

Ian took it all in his stride and climbed to the top within a couple of weeks of the final result for his first eclectic triumph.

Over the 18 holes, Ian's 'eclectic-best' recorded 14 gross birdies, one eagle and three pars. His nett score is believed to be the best eclectic score in the history book, amounting to a nett 47.5.

Simon Gray was runner-up, having led the series for a number of weeks.

Winner of multiple past eclectic seasons, Nigel Corby, was overall third. Paul McCarthy, past winner Mark Murphy, Michael Coupland, Steve Furphy and Steve Davis all had very successful eclectic seasons.

The prizes were allocated in two Handicap Divisions with the higher handicaps, for those with an index of 20+, being won by Phil Keogh, from last season's winner, Jim Carr, then came Mike Carelton, Roger Newton and Barry Smith.
