Sudbrook Moor Golf Club round-up

The Sudbrook Moor Pot of Gold in the 2024 Rainbow Championship has been won by the blossoming 26 handicap index of Ian Barnes.

Barnes said, mid-year, that he was committed to playing in all nine qualifying stablefords to give himself the strongest chance to be among the leading names in the Order of Merit, where a player's best six scores count.

With the final competition remaining, there was an exciting finish for the persistent Steve Martin, Steve Dawson, Kevin Turner, Paul McCarthy, Barnes and Malcolm Edwards who were in contention, all looking for their first rainbow title.

An excellent winter scorecard of 37 points saw Barnes leap the field and finish with a grand total to be six points clear, having seized the opportunity to replace his lowest score with the very vital 37 points, and being the only player to do that.

It was a more than satisfying season to have the whole series successfully completed without a single weather interruption and the enthusiastic membership look forward to the new Rainbow season re-starting in March 2025.
