Grantham Town sign striker Jevin Seaton from United Counties League club Radford

Interim manager Paul Rawden is hoping the signing of striker Jevin Seaton can help fire the Gingerbreads towards achieving their goal this season.

Seaton has joined Grantham after a prolific spell with Radford in Division One of the United Counties League.

He has netted 20 goals in 18 games this season at step six of the non-league pyramid and has scored 68 times in 92 matches for the Nottinghamshire- based club over the past three campaigns.

Seaton marked his Gingerbreads debut on Saturday with a goal in their 4-2 away reversal at Hinckley Leicester Road.

And Rawden feels the forward will be a big asset to the Gingerbreads as they look to move away from the lower reaches of the Northern Premier League Midlands Division table.

He said: "I am really pleased that we've been able to get Jevin to the club.

"Getting a goalscorer is not easy, but he has shown what he can do lower down the pyramid and we have to be giving players like Jevin the opportunity.

"He had a great debut on Saturday and scored his goal with a really good finish. I've known him a long time and it's what he is capable of.

"He's a very good player and I do think that he will score a lot of goals for us because he will get better once he gets up to the fitness levels of the step up.

"He will help us achieve what we want to do, which is making sure that we don't get relegated."

Grantham find themselves four points away from safety and only off the foot of the table on goal difference after Saturday's defeat.

Hinckley hit two goals in injury-time to take the points after Lewis Darlington had got Grantham back on level terms at 2-2.

Goals from Mike Armstrong and Chris Jones put the contest beyond Grantham with Rawden bemoaning the fitness of his side.

He added: "We showed that we've got good character and the ability to hurt sides to equalise so soon after going behind.

"I do think though that simply we're not quite fit enough for the level that we're playing at at the moment.

"We always tend to run out of gas in the last 10 or 15 minutes when the opposition brings fresh legs and a bit more physical power.

"They built up the pressure and we just needed to take the heat out of the game a little bit.

"The lads have worked hard but there are differences in their fitness levels. When you're a side that is struggling, those fitness levels have to be right so we've got a lot of hard work to do."

Rawden has bolstered his management team this week by bringing back former assistant boss Dennis Rhule to the club ahead of Saturday's home match with Sutton Coldfield.

Rhule returns after a spell as number two at United Counties League Premier Division North side Newark and Sherwood.

Striker Luke Horne is also back with the club after a spell in the Northern Premier League East Division with Grimsby Borough.

Horne spent time on loan with the Gingerbreads last season from Boston United's Academy where he was on target for Grantham in their draw against Dunston.
