Grantham Running Club race in the second fixture of the North Midlands Cross Country League at Wicksteed Park in Kettering

Fourteen members of Grantham Running Club ventured to Wicksteed Park in Kettering for the second fixture of the North Midlands Cross Country League.

The course conditions were favourable, being relatively firm underfoot and fairly mud free, although it was undulating in places.

The GRC ladies were represented by Anne Greenwood who, in her second cross-country event for the club, was first Grantham lady home over the 6K distance in a time of 28.55.

Harriet Morgan, also running her second cross-country event, was second in a time of 29.08, followed by Andrea Ward who put in a strong performance to complete the first team of three.

Next back was Sarah High, who finished second on her age category, followed by cross-country regular Caroline Davis and Paula Ebbins.

As a results of their efforts, the GRC veteran ladies are now in fifth place in the league.

In the men's 10K race, and up against a large, strong and competitive field, Peter Bonner acquitted himself well with an impressive run, finishing first for GRC in a time of 44.13.

Also finishing strongly was Jason Walker who was next back having overtaken the ever consistent Rob Howbrook in the last stretch of the race. However, Rob did finish first in his age group.

James McMullan and Peter Jennings followed, both putting on a good show which gained Peter fifth place overall in his age group.

Cross-country regulars Andrew MacAllister, Paul Davis and Craig Drury each put in a great effort to complete the GRC men's team.
