Grantham Town draw with Bridlington in the Northern Premier League

The Gingerbreads picked up another point on the road but, for the second game running, late goals changed the scoreline at Bridlington on Saturday.

This time it was Grantham on the end of an injury time equaliser that left them at the bottom of the Northern Premier League East Division table after a 2-2 draw.

They twice led through two goals from Ryan Rushen before Bridlington bounced back to earn a share of the spoils with strikes from Jack Bulless and Lewis Dennison.

"The first half was probably the worst we have played," said Gingerbreads head coach Louis Bland.

"We did what we have spoken about in training in the second half and were the better side for the whole of the half. We conceded two bad goals, but this time probably deserved to win the game."

It was a bright start to the contest from both sides, writes Graham Cowell.

Grantham forced early corners before Bridlington came back and began to dominate the half.

The home side played good football on the floor while Grantham played a long ball too often to seriously threaten the home side.

Bridlington created a couple of chances in the first quarter of the game but could not capitalise on them.

After 17 minutes Bridlington recycled a half-cleared cross to Glen Sani whose shot was turned round the post by Grantham goalkeeper Curtis Hall.

Five minutes later a free kick was only cleared as far as Will Sutton who fired wide of the target.

Sani had two more chances to give the home side the lead.

On 20 minutes he got on the end of a quick pass from Matty Dixon, but again, Hall denied him.

Six minutes later it was an offside decision that denied him after a good move involving Sutton, Ellis Barkworth and Dixon came to Sani, but he had moved too soon, and the assistant referee's flag denied his shot.

With Grantham getting forward wide but delivering crosses either to a defender’s head or the goalkeeper’s hands, it was no surprise that the two sides were level at half-time.

After the break Grantham came out a different side and took the game to the home team.

The Gingerbreads won almost everything in the middle third of the pitch and kept pressure on the home side.

The Gingerbreads forced four corners in the first 10 minutes after the break.

Bridlington goalkeeper James Hitchcock blocked one shot from Rushen and turned another from Louis Nicholson onto the post after saving Curtis Morrison's initial shot.

The Gingerbreads delivered a number of good crosses that just evaded a final touch before Rushen grabbed his first goal for the Gingerbreads after 73 minutes.

Sisa Tuntulwana played a pass for Harry Olivant who turned the ball on for Rushen who fired past Hitchcock to put Grantham in front.

The lead only lasted for seven minutes before an error at the back allowed Bridlington to equalise.

A free kick found Bulless unmarked in the Grantham penalty area. Although Hall got a hand to his header, it was not enough to keep the ball out of the net.

Grantham continued to push for a winner and Rushen continued to cause problems for the home side.

In the last minute Rushen seemed to have taken all three points for Grantham when he bundled the ball into the net from Cedric Nguedon's cross.

The Gingerbreads players and fans' hopes of all three points were dashed in added time.

Bridlington played one long ball as a last push. It fell to Dennison who ran on to fire past Hall to level scores late in the game.

Grantham are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Dunston.

The match is being played at Consett's Belle View Stadium due to the ongoing pitch issues at Dunston.
