Sudbrook Moor Golf Club round-up
Liam Cornes has returned two superb scorecards in the opening events of Sudbrook Moor's 2025 Sword of Achievement.
The 29-year-old heads a mixed field of more than 50 competitors.
A member over the past four years, Cornes supports the monthly strokeplay competitions with obvious but quiet enthusiasm.
His results show immense steadiness which pays off in the Sword of Achievement Order of Merit, a running scoreboard of the designated monthly strokeplay, which leads to a much sought after major and is open to all members of all ages and handicaps.
Cornes' handicap is moving down over the years and he currently plays off 14.
Also in sparkling form is 23 handicap index, Courtney Sharples, a new competitor on the scene who joined the membership last autumn.
Sharples' February result was best of the ladies' stablefords with 38 points and her two contributions to the Sword of Achievement have launched her to overall third spot behind Cornes and Dean Marsden.
February's leading monthly stableford results: Overall winner - Richard Howden 40pts; Nathan Froggatt 38; Liam Cornes 38; Courtney Sharples 38; Garry Thrower 37.
The Sword of Achievement leading points: Liam Cornes 48; Dean Marsden 42; Courtney Sharples 35.
